I cannot download prices. The download process gets to "attempting to connect to idcrp.intdata,com:60001 via telnet." and the next line "Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 4)". Nothing happens after that.

Since our last download, the office moved and we have a new telephone number for our DSL line.

We also upgraded from a peer to peer to network server computer configuration. At that time, we reinstalled all of our FN software.

Everything has worked fine until I tried to download prices via price link. What is wrong?

Margaret:

Thanks for the detailed message. It sounds like you are connecting to the Interactive Data server but not logging in. In PriceLink, select View | IDC Settings and renenter your Interactive Data user name and password. Contact Interactive Data if you aren't sure what they are.

If that doesn't help, select View | IDC Log file. Verify that the last line is "...Nahant Update 4)." The snippet below shows what should come after that.

Also try reinstalling PriceLink in each computer (and entering the password as above). Be sure to use Workstation Install and point to the server, not the local C: drive.

You might also ask your IT to temporarially turn off all firewalls and test PriceLink again. It uses port 60001.

I followed all of your suggestions. User ID and password verified with IDC. The workstation install points to F Drive (the server). Pricelink still stops at "Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 4)." No change from the first post.

We have two workstations and a server. Our outside IT worked with Financial Navigator to implement the new computer configuration. At that time, all FN software was re-installed. This is the first attempt to pull prices since the installation.

The only other change from our office move is a new DSL telephone number.

Thanks for the additional information. Do you have the same problem from both computers?

I will email you the steps to test the connection with Interactive Data using Window's built-in Telnet command. That will tell us if the problem is with your system setup or with PriceLink.

Please email me the IDC Log file.

I followed your steps to test the connection. I get to "Hello".

Only one workstation uses pricelink. It has never been installed on the second workstation. I believe it is installed on our server.

I emailed our IDC log to you.

P. S. Do you consider Norton Anti-virus a firewall? We have the basic software installed. It has been installed for all the years we used pricelink.

I looked at the application and the only thing that seems to be a firewall is "inbound firewall". There is no access to turn this off (at least none that I could find.)

Margaret:

Thanks for the addtional info and log file.

Try turning off any wireless devices on your computer, like WiFi printers or network connections. Apparently Interactive Data doesn’t work well with wireless.

Norton Anti-Virus is not a firewall. However, you may have other Norton products installed that are firewalls. But, since PriceLink worked before when Norton was installed, Norton may not be the problem.

Ask you IT person if there are any hardware or software firewalls. Usually there is a hardware firewall between your Internet connection and the server and the rest of the office. Ask IT to turn that firewall off temporarily. I am guessing that the fact you made it to “Red Hat…” indicates that port 60001 is open and the firewall is not the problem. But, it would still be good to check.

You might try installing PriceLink on the other computer. Use “Workstation Install” and point to the Navigator program folder F:\ on the next screen. See if PriceLink works on that computer.

How long does it take between the time the “Red Hat…” line appears and the “Closing connection…” line? If it is more than a few seconds, there may be a problem with a slow connection. You can increase the time allowed by following the steps below.

To increase the time out:

  1. Open idcddial.dlg (in the FN program folder F:\) using Notepad.
  2. Search for “dotcpip:” That is the start of the TCP/IP section. Everything before that is for dialup.
  3. Find UNTIL 150 under LOOP 3.
  4. Change to UNTIL 15000.
  5. Save and close idcddial.dlg
  6. Try PriceLink again.

We do not have any wireless devices except for keyboards and mouses. We do not use WiFi. Our network and printers are hardwired.

I am waiting for a response from IT about firewalls. However, the standard Windows' firewall is not activated. I do not think we use firewalls.

"closing connection" occurs when I close the program. Otherwise, the screen stops at Nahant 4. Today, I let the screen sit for one hour at Nahant 4. Then I cancelled the program and "closing connection" appeared on screen. (By the way, the only way I can exit the program is to restart my computer. After I click "x", the screen just sits at closing connection)

I do not know how to use notepad. I can see the file via "explore all users", but the program will not let me open the file. Is there another way to open the file?
