I use FN to manage 12 different individuals' investment portfolios. Each of these people own a variety of stocks as they are using money managers. I know have 354 symbols stored in the file, however I know some should be removed. Is there a quick way to compare the total symbol file to my individual client files to crosscheck which symbols need to be deleted? Thanks for any suggestions. Debbie Ehlmann

One way is to just rebuild the symbol file from scratch. Follow these steps to rebuild the symbol file. - Delete (or rename) the symbol file in the Navigator program folder. The file is named 'sym2.prn'.
- In each entity, select Investments (Accounts in 7.5) | Security Symbols and Other Info Changes.
- Select OK on the first security account.
- With the first security on the screen, select Automatic if “Automatic” is not already diplayed in the upper right corner. This will run through the securities and stop on securities that are missing a symbol or when the symbol is not in the symbol file.
- Select Yes if "Enter Security Symbol?" appears and enter the appropriate symbol in the Sym,#: text box.
- Select Yes to add the symbol to the symbol file if the "Add New Security Symbol?" message appears.
- Select Next or press the page down key to go to the next security and the prompt to add the next symbol. The fast way to do all this is to press page down and then enter.
- Repeat steps 2 thru 7 for each entity. Each entity has its own securities but there is only one symbol file. The symbol file has a list of symbols for all your securities from all your entities. On other entities it will pause less since more symbols will already be in the symbol file.
You can view and edit the symbol file. Open your Navigator program folder in Windows Explorer. Double click on sym2.prn file. Use Notepad to open it. [This message has been edited by David (edited 07-22-2008).] [This message has been edited by David (edited 07-22-2008).]
