After installation of renewal of price data CD, an error message occurs and incorrect pricing occurs thereinafter. Erro message reads "Run time error 5".
How can this be corrected. Thank you!

Are you referring to the StockWeb renewal CD, or are you referring to Navigator Access?

When does the "Run time error 5" occur?
During installation? or when running the actual StockWeb/Naviagator Access program?

What version of StockWeb or Navigator Access are you using? Access the program and select Help | About.... and the version will be on the second line of the text box that appears.

What Windows application are you using? (98, 2000, XP)

Are you on a stand-alone PC or network?

Reply with the information requested above and the exact steps you took leading up to the run time error message if you can reproduce it.

Thanks Pamela for your response to "Run time error 5".
My reference was to Stock Web renewal CD and the error occured when running StockWeb/Navigator Access program.
I am using StockWeb version 2.1.0(32bit), running Windows 98, on a stand alone PC.
This problem occurred last year upon renewal. I don't know how I corrected it. I am not a computer guru and usually fumble around to find a solution. Apparently I corrected it this year, but not sure how. I re-installed the program, eliminated stocks sold. I actually reinstalled the program twice. Somehow it seems to now be operating ok. Thanks for your consideration. If you have a solution I may print out so it will be available next year if there is a reoccurence, it will be appreciated. Thank you!

When you Begin a New Year, select the option: Delete: Sold Investment Accounts in the Begin a New Year - Options box.

This will eliminate all sold accounts from your New Year's chart of accounts automatically.

Did you install the renewel CD to the same folder where your FN program files reside?

When did the "Run time error 5" show up? When you initially accessed StockWeb, during transmit, during retrieval, during save, or during access prices to update securities?

Did you make sure that you saved the retrieved price file apr2.prn to the FN program folder?

Knowing the steps that led to the run time error will help me identify the problem.

The renewal CD as installed in the same folder where my FN programs reside.

The "Run time error 5" showed up during the procedure to access prices to update securities.

The retrieved price file apr2.prn was saved in the FN program file.ecurities.

I don't know if I selected to option to Delete: Sold Investment Accounts when the new year was started on January 1, 2002. When the Run time error 5 occurred, the access to pricing was about 3/4th of the way through the portfolio. Before reinstalling the Renewal CD the second time, I eliminated all the stocks sold during the current year. Perhaps it was in this area that triggered the run time error.

Hope this is helpful.

Your sold stock accounts for the CURRENT year should not have caused the problem. And, you don't want to delete your stocks sold in the current year because you need that information for creating certain investment reports and tax reporting purposes.

Do you recall any other wording on the error message other than "Run time error 5"?
