When I attempt to run StockWeb from the menu in Financial Navigator, or from the StockWeb icon on the start menu, I get the initial screen of StockWeb, which shows the stock symbols that I want to retrieve. When I hit the transmit button, I get a dialog box entitled "Windows Explorer" which says: "The path '200403' does not exist or is not a directory." When I hit OK, the box closes, and so does StockWeb. Any ideas?

Hello, thank you for posting your question. It sounds like there’s a problem accessing your default internet browser. Check to see what web browser that Stock Web is trying to access. You can do this by: 1. In StockWeb, Click on Help | About Navigator StockWeb. 2. Note the line that begins with “Browser”. What is this path? (For example it might be: C:\Progra~1\Intern~1\iexplore.exe) 3. In the About Navigator StockWeb screen, press the letter “t” on your keyboard. This will put StockWeb into test mode. Click OK, and then close the About Navigator StockWeb screen. 4. Click the Transmit button to retrieve prices as you normally would. 5. Please note the message you receive from StockWeb after doing this. What is this message? Let me know what you find out. -------------------------------------------- George Technical Support Financial Navigator Int’l

The dialog box that results reads: StockWeb in the title bar and then contains the following: Length= 21+35+194+13=263 C:\WINNT\Explorer.exe http://www.finnav.com/cgi/cw/cgi?s=ABT+AIG+AOL+BLS+BP+BUD+C+CL+CNP+CSCO+CVX+DELL+EMC+EMR+F+FNM+FRE+GE+GW+HD+HON+IBM+INTC+IO+JNJ+JPM+KO+KO=LU+MHP+MMC+MO+MRK+MSFT+NOK+NSRGY+PEP+PFE+P G+PWA+V+RD+RRC+RRI+SBC+TGT+TXN+UPS+UST+WAG+WMT+XOM&v=2&d=200403. It appears to be attempting to use Windows Explorer as the web browser, rather than Internet Explorer. How would I change this setting? Thanks.

Yes, you are right. StockWeb retrieves the browser location directly from Windows. Currently, Windows is telling StockWeb that your default web browser is Windows Explorer rather than Internet Explorer. Let’s try to specify Internet Explorer as the application to handle htm and html files. Here are instructions for specifying Internet Explorer as the default program for htm/html files in Windows2000. Please let me know if you are using WindowsNT instead (the overall method is the same for NT but the individual steps are different). 1. In Windows 2000, open Windows Explorer. 2. Select Tools | Folder Options 3. Click on the File Types tab. 4. From the registered file type list, select the HTM extension. 5. Click the Change button. 6. From the Open With screen, select Internet Explorer as the program you want to use to open this file type. 7. Repeat step 4-6 for the HTML extension as well. 8. Check to see that the ‘Details for HTM’ extension show that it “Opens with: Internet Explorer”. Same for HTML extension. StockWeb should now read Internet Explorer as your web browser. Let us know if this solved your problem. -------------------------------------------- George Technical Support Financial Navigator Int’l [This message has been edited by fni_support (edited 06-09-2003).]

That did it. Apparently when they upgraded our machines last weekend, they deleted those file types, and the default is Windows Explorer. Thanks for your help.
