I have both securities and covered call options in my portfolio. I have not entered a symbol for any of the traded options because 1) I have no need to know the current price for an option, I'm only interested in the strike price and what I received for writing the option, and 2) traded option symbols change over the lifetime of that option (e.g., a symbol beginning with L is for options expiring more than a year away, any such option changes it's symbol when the expiration date becomes less than a year away), and I don't want to have to update option symbols each time they change.

After retrieving prices for my securities using StockWeb, and answering Yes to "Access Prices to Update Securities?", I'm taken through every one of my traded options one at a time, which is very time-consuming and of no value. Using "Automatic" doesn't seem to make any difference.

What can/should I do differently?

Hello Nancy, thank for posting your question.

To skip your traded options when updating your security prices:

1. From the FN desktop, select Investments | Investment & Account Options.

2. Under the Automatic Mode frame, check the Skip Unpriced Securities option.

The Skip Unpriced Securities option ignores securities without prices in your price file when Automatic Mode is active on the Enter Prices to Update Securities screen. FN will not stop when it reaches a blank valued symbol. Instead, it will continue to update the market values for other investments that have a price recorded in your price file.

Let us know if this solves your problem.
