I have SW 2.1 on my Gainesville computer with expiration date 12/31/03. I have a new computer for my home in Blowing Rock NC and when I loaded SW 2.1, and went to 'Retrieve", the screen came up listing the total of my stocks and the current prices, but no way to save them to apr2.prn as is the usual case.I do not know where to go from here. Can someone please help me? Thanks

Hello, thank you for posting your question.

It sounds like you are describing a known issue with Windows2000 & WindowsXP using Internet Explorer. Please see the post: Retrieve displayed on IE browser in Win2000 for the solution. It involves right clicking on the Retrieve tab and selecting Save As… to save the price download to your FN program folder as "apr2.prn".

Let us know if this solves your problem.

George, right clicking on Retrieve does not offer me the option of Save As. Please advise further. Thanks, Doug Hazen

Doug,

If your browser is Internet Explorer, right- clicking on the Retrieve tab should give you the option of "Save Target As...". Select this option and save the price file download to your FN program folder as: apr2.prn

Let us know if this solved your problem. Thanks.

Gearge, I'm sorry, but it still does not work although it gives the impression that it is updating the prices. However, when you go to the prices in FN, they have not changed from the previous. There is simply something wrong in the transfer process from SW2.1 to the portfolio in FN.

Please continue to help. Is it time for you to send me a late copy of SW2.1 with an experiation date of 12/31.03 as present?

Doug

Hello Doug,

Sorry to hear you’re still running into problems. First, let’s make sure your apr2.prn file has the new prices and dates. Locate the apr2.prn file in your Financial Navigator program folder. You can open it with Notepad or WordPad. The apr2.prn file has the following format: symbol, price, date, etc.

Does your apr2.prn file have the correct prices and dates for your securities? Are these the old prices still? If so, make sure you are overwriting your previous apr2.prn file in your FN program folder when selecting “Save Target As…” in StockWeb.

If you haven’t already, try launching StockWeb from within Financial Navigator rather than through your desktop icon or shortcut. In Financial Navigator, select Investments | Navigator StockWeb to download and update your prices.

Let us know what you find out.

Gearge, It now appears to be working OK. The difference seems to be launching SW from FN rather than from the desktop icon.

Many thanks, Doug Hazen
