To retrieve prices to Financial Navigator, click on the 'Retrieve' tab located at the top banner of StockWeb.

1. Rename the file to apr2.prn before saving the file to your installation folder. This step is not needed if you have less than 50 symbols.

2. Save the apr2.prn file to your Financial Navigator installation folder. (Example: C:/FN/)

Some users have problems downloading prices with StockWeb. The problem could be with their browser settings, the number of symbols they are trying to download, or the constantly changing Yahoo Finance Web site.
The post above may help. If not, here are detailed steps how to work around those problems. These steps are a summary of the previous posts in this Forum and the steps in the Navigator StockWeb Version 2.0 Reference Booklet.
  1. Start Navigator.
  2. Open one of the entities you would like to update.
  3. Select Investments | Navigator StockWeb. The Navigator StockWeb screen appears with a list of all the symbols in your symbol file.
  4. If you have less than 100 symbols, skip to step 11 below.
  5. Select the first symbol on the list. It is highlighted in blue.
  6. Scroll down if necessary to about the 100th symbol. (Does not have to be exact).
  7. Hold down the shift key.
  8. Select the 100th symbol. (Does not have to be exactly the 100th). The first 100 or so are highlighted in blue.
  9. Release the mouse and the shift key.
  10. Make a note of the last symbol selected.
  11. Select Transmit. A StockWeb screen appears asking you to verify how many symbols you are about to transmit.
  12. Verify a 100 or less symbols are about to be transmitted.
  13. Select Yes. The Access Prices Update Securities screen may appear. If it does, ignore it for now. Your browser opens to the Navigator StockWeb Web site.
  14. Select the Retrieve tab. The File Download screen appears. If that screen does not appear, see the alternate steps “When Retrieve Does Not Work” below.
  15. Select Save. The Save As screen appears.
  16. Verify the file name is apr2.prn and the Save as Type is .prn document. If not, see the steps below to Show File Extensions.
  17. Change the file name to apr2 if it is not already. You do not need to enter the “.prn” extension if Save as Type is .prn.
  18. Navigate to your FN program file folder, typically something like C:\Program Files\FN or Z:\FN.
  19. Select Save. The Save As message “…already exists. Do you want to replace it?”
  20. Select Yes.
  21. Minimize or close the Navigator StockWeb browser screen. The Access Prices Update Securities screen is now visible.
  22. Select Yes on the Access Prices Update Securities screen. The Valuation Date screen appears.
  23. Enter the appropriate date. If the New York stock markets are still open or just closed, enter today’s date. If today is a weekend or stock market holiday, enter the last date that the markets where open.
  24. Select OK to confirm the date. The Access Prices to Update Securities screen may appear. If it does not, you are done. If it does appear, and says Automatic Mode in the top right corner, it has stopped on a security for which StockWeb did not find a price.
    • If you have less than 100 symbols and just transmitted them all with StockWeb, it stopped so that you can manually enter the price if you need to. Enter the price, select Next, and repeat until the Access Prices to Update Securities screen closes and all your securities are updated. You are done.
    • If you have more than 100 symbols, and have only transmitted some of them with StockWeb, continue to step 25 below.
    • If you have more than 100 symbols, and have just transmitted the last of them with StockWeb, you can now manually enter any missing prices if you need to. Enter the price, select Next, and repeat until the Access Prices to Update Securities screen closes and all your securities are updated. You are done.
  25. Select Cancel to close the Access Prices to Update Securities screen. You will update the prices later. Navigator has already added the new prices that StockWeb just retrieved to a special price file.
  26. Repeat steps 3-25 above until are your symbols have been transmitted, starting with the first remaining symbol. Navigator will add the new prices as StockWeb retrieves them for the additional symbols.

To Show File Extensions

  1. Follow the steps in File name extensions in the Troubleshooting Financial Navigator Forum.
  2. Select Start | My Computer to open a Windows Explorer window.
  3. Navigate to your FN program file folder, typically something like C:\Program Files\FN or Z:\FN.
  4. Double click on any file with a .prn extension, like APR2.PRN, FPR2.PRN or SYM2.PRN. A Windows screen appears “Windows cannot open this file.”
  5. Select Select the program from a list.
  6. Select OK The Open With screen appears.
  7. Select Notepad from the list of programs.
  8. Select Always use the selected program to open this kind of file if it does not already have a check mark in the box.
  9. Select OK. Notepad opens the file and displays a list of your symbols.
  10. Select File | Exit to close Notepad. You have now associated the .prn extension with a program and Windows will display .prn in Save as Type when you save the retrieved prices.

When Retrieve Does Not Work

Sometimes selecting the Retrieve tab on the Navigator StockWeb Web site displays a Notepad screen with a list of symbols, instead of the Save As screen. To fix this, right-click the Retrieve tab and then select Save Target As…
