Begin a New YearWhen you begin a new year, make sure that the New Year's Budget selection is set to Actual Amounts from Last Year. (This is selected by default.) This will place the actuals from the previous year in the Budget screen for each income statement account.
"Last Year" Heading on the Income Statement
When you print an Income Statement that has a "budget" column, whatever appears on the Budget screen for that account will show up in that column. Make sure that you print the right heading for this column by selecting Income Statement Options, and then selecting Print Column: Last Year.
Already Begun a New Year
What if you've already begun a new year, and mistakenly changed the default New Year's Budget to either Zero Budget Amounts or Last Year Budget?
Then it gets a little harder. In this situation, you need to go to Accounts | Budgets for Accounts and input last year's data in each income statement account. Whatever appears in the Budgets for Accounts screen will appear in the "Budget" column of the income statement, whether you've changed the heading to "Budget" or "Last Year."
Don't Want Budget Column to Appear
If you don't want the last year / budget figures to appear on the income statement, go to Income Statement Options and select Print Column: None.
