While the Chart of Accounts as listed under "Accounts" is correct except that some accounts were mistakenly entered into the wrong categories (how do I correct this?) -- when I enter transactions, the correct account is not always assigned.

Hello Timona, thanks for posting your question.

You can move accounts around in your Chart of Accounts as long as they stay in the same Class. In the Chart of Accounts, you can simply select an account and drag it to a new category. Alternately, you can move an account by the following:

1. Move to the class, group, and category where you want to insert the new account.

2. Select the category folder or account under which you want to insert the existing account.

3. Select Chart | Add Account. The Add Account screen displays.

4. Type the name of the account you want to move. Select OK. The account is inserted beneath the category or account you selected.

Could you elaborate on the statement “when I enter transactions, the correct account is not always assigned”. Do you select the proper account name during transaction entry but the transactions do not post to that account? Have you determined which account the transactions are posted to instead? How many of your accounts does this happen with?

Let us know what you find out. Please click on the Post Reply link at the bottom left side of this post to continue this thread rather than creating a brand new topic.

One account in particular is garbled: it bears the name of a payroll withholding account but when I ask for reports it details transactions identical to those in a checking account -- both accounts show identical amounts, dates, etc. but the payroll withholding account doesn't appear at all in the chart of accounts.

Very interesting! Was able to correct all crazy budgets, verify account balances in Test Mode. GrpCode and ActCode numbers all match, but 1170 accounts are listed -- ?? I don't have that many, to my knowledge. Here are some of the accounts listed in numerical order of chart of accounts:~, @8, Oz, a(with French accent grave), '~, h#, upside down questionmark, etc, etc: altogether accounts named by symbols, most of them not on my keyboard, some in symbols I can insert = 31 (possibly more if I didn't count correctly).

Hello Timona, thanks for the detailed response.

Have you had any success trying to delete any of these strange accounts through the Accounts | Change or Delete Account function? If an account doesn’t show up on the Change or Delete account list, try typing in the name manually if possible.

Let me know what you find out.

I would try to eliminate strange accounts from Change/Delete window but my keyboard doesn't even have most of the symbols that are their only names -- The only place I have actually seen them listed is in the Chart of Accounts alphabetical report. Should I try this in test mode?

Hello Timona,

Since we have two separate topics open that are discussing the same problem, I will close this topic. We can continue our discussion about this problem at your other topic: Account placed in wrong category. Please post any future replies to that topic. Thank you.
