In the Chart of Accounts area ,I created some new accounts in the expense area "Accounting and Tax fees"and then wanted to delete the generic account which comes with the software. I clicked the generic account to highlight it then I clicked the delete button at the top of the screen. An error message came up "Run time error 35600 Index out of bounds". When I clicked on the OK button it blew me out of Financial Navigator back to the my desktop. When I went back in to the software the account had been deleted.

Is there a less exciting way of deleting unused generic accounts? Thanks

Thanks for your post (and sense of humor). Yes, FN should allow you to gracefully delete accounts that do not have any current activity. It sounds like the index FN uses to look up accounts may need to be rebuilt:
  • Select Utilities | Test & Correct Files | Chart of Accounts Index.
It appears to us that the problem started when you added the new accounts, not when you deleted the old account.
When you added the new accounts:
  • Did you add the accounts just before you deleted the other account, or had you added them some time ago?

  • Were the new accounts moved after they were added, or did you leave them in the Class/Group/Category that you originally created them in?
Since we have not seen this problem before, we'd like to recreate the problem. If you are interested, you can troubleshoot this some more.
  • Can you recreate the problem?

  • Make a backup, and then run tests on the backup copy.

  • Try following the same steps that caused the problem (using a different account, since the old one is already deleted).

  • If you can duplicate the problem, try following the same steps, but after creating the new accounts, exit Chart of Accounts and reenter it before deleting the old account.
Thanks again for the report. We are always looking for way to improve FN and make it even more reliable.
