Agnes:Thank you for the question.
Make sure you are using the Master Chart of Accounts to add new Groups, Categories, and Accounts. That is the only way to add new Groups and Categories to your Custom Chart of Accounts. See the post New groups and categories.
If you seem to have used all the Groups and Catagories in the Master Chart of Accounts, here are some suggestions:
Adding a Group to the Chart of Accounts discusses reorganizing your accounts to free up some Groups and Categories:
Consider reorganizing your accounts. You can change a category to cover multiple areas (e.g., Office Expenses can include utilities, IT fees, equipment repair fees, etc. instead of having a separate category for each type of office expense.) Then you can move accounts into the new category and use the now available category for what you need.
You are long-time user of FN. If your data was originally created in Financial Navigator Version 7.0 or earlier, you may have an older Master Chart of Accounts. Version 7.5 added more Groups. Your FN 8.2 should have these groups in the Master Chart of Accounts:- Assets has 17 Groups
- Liabilities has 10 Groups
- Equity has 5 Groups
- Income has 12 Groups
- Expenses has 17 Groups
If you have less, you can update to the new Chart of Accounts. See Updating the Chart of Accounts.
