We currently have one entity that is headquartered in Georgia. Another office will be opened in Florida that will be an entirely separate FN entity. The GA location COA has been tweaked/named to our specifications. Is there a way to copy that existing COA to use for the new FL entity?

Dear Becky,

There is no automated way to move one Chart of Accounts from one entity to another. However, there is a method of using one entity as a template for starting a new entity, which sounds like it would work for your situation.

Before beginning this proceedure, be sure to backup your FN data!

To create a copy of the entity:
1. Using My Computer create a folder in a location with a name and year of the new entity. This folder can be created in the main FN folder if desired.

2. Open the entity which has the Chart of Accounts you'd like to copy.

3. Go to File and select Save As. Navigator to the folder you created in Step 1, and select OK.

4. Select "yes" at the prompt.

You now have a duplicate of the existing entity with the desired chart of accounts. Next we will "clean it up" for use in the new entity.

5. FN should be in the new entity. Go to File and select Change Entity Name. Select the appropriate options, and click Ok to step through the process.

6. Upon completion of the name change, you will be prompted to add the entity to the entity list. Select Ok to continue.

7. To start this entity "fresh", go to Utilities and then Start Year Over Again. You will be asked to backup your data one more time - click on Ok to continue.

8. When starting the year over, you have the option to zero starting balances, set budgets, and change the fiscal year. Select the desired options.

9. You're done! Your chart of account should be in this new entity, as well as payee and payor information.

Please let us know if this answers your question.
