Four digits is the maximum. With a 5-digit check number, ignore the first digit. Thus, for your example, 10220, enter 220. The only time I can imagine this being a problem would be:
- If you happened to have two or more sequences of 5-digit check numbers for the same checking account. Most checking accounts would use only one sequence of numbers, so it would be obvious that 220 actually means 10220.
- If you have more than 10,000 checks per year in one checking account.

Chk # — Enter a number with as many as four digits (1-9999). Note: When you reach check number 10000, simply begin the numbering scheme over again from 1 (10001) to 9999 (19999).
