I'm trying to make an entry to the General Journal. I've checked the Chart of Accounts, and I have a General Journal, right there under Other Current Assets. Yet when I go to transaction entry and select "General Journal," a box pops up telling me "No accounts in General Journal." What's going on?

If you select General Journal in the category box in Transaction Entry, then the General Journal account must be in the General Journal category in the Chart of Accounts.

You said that your General Journal account was in the Other Current Assets category. Move it to the General Journal category. Here's how to do it.

  1. If you don't see the General Journal category (it's near the end of the Current Assets group), then select Chart | Master from the Chart of Accounts menu. Then all the possible categories will be displayed.
  2. Click once on the General Journal Category
  3. Select Chart | Add Account from the Chart of Accounts menu.
  4. Type General Journal in the Add New Accounts and select OK
  5. System responds "Account GENERAL JOURNAL already exists. Do you want to move it?" Select Yes.
