The Retrieve Indexes button is available if today’s date is in a month that is past the date stored in your index file. For instance, if today is 2/5/09 and your index file date is 2/3/09, Retrieve Indexes button is unavailable since you already have the latest update. If today is 2/5/09 and your index file date is 1/3/09, you can use the Retrieve Indexes button to update the file. So it sounds like your file is up to date already and you don’t need to do anything. The prompt to update the indexes says you are running a report for a month for which you don’t have indexes. It appears only once. If you close Navigator ROI and reopen it, the prompt will reappear the first time you run a report for a future month.
You can also manually download the index file. The file is fnroi.ini and is stored in your Navigator program folder. The instructions below are for Internet Explorer 7.0 and Windows XP; your computer may require slightly different steps.
To manually update the index file:
1. Go to http://www.finnav.com/support/software_updates.html
2. Select Download next to ROI 8.2 Indexes. This file works for Navigator 9.0 also.
3. Select Save. The Save As screen appears.
4. Browse to your Navigator program folder.
5. Select Save. A warning appears “fnroi.ini already exists. Do you want to replace it?
6. Select Yes. The Download Complete screen appears.
7. Select Close to close the Download Complete screen.
Note that Software Update for Navigator ROI does not update the index file.
