I began a new year (2009) in Navigator. If I add a new account in 2008 will it appear in 2009? If I add a new account in 2009 will it appear in 2008?

In Navigator 9.0, you can add accounts in any year and the new accounts will automatically show up in all years. This is because there is a single Chart of Accounts for all years. In Navigator 8.2 and earlier, there was no connection between years and any new accounts had to be manually added to each year if needed.

However, if you enter new transactions or otherwise change the balance in 2008, the starting balance in 2009 will not be updated automatically.

If you do not want new 2009 accounts to appear in lists in 2009, change Active From to 2009 in the Chart of Accounts.

To update 2009 starting balances for all accounts:

1. Open 2009 in Navigator
2. Backup the 2009 data.
3. Select Utilities | Update Starting Balances.
4. Follow the prompts. Messages appear informing you of any changes.
